Lifeguarging sessions & review/recert classes available

 Lifeguarding Course  fee of $270 includes: 

1. American Red Cross Blended Lifeguarding Classroom sessions (not pool deck lecture)
2. American Red Cross Basic Lifeguarding in-water skill sessions
3. Lifeguard hip pack ($12 value)
4. Adult & Infant CPR breathing barrier ($15 value)
5. PPE required for class skill sessions
6. 2-year certification upon successful completion
7. Use of Professional series adult, child & infant CPR  manikins with feedback monitors
8. Free electronic ARC manual with print copies available for classroom sessions

2024 courses meet over three days and have limited availability. After completing a 7-hour online segment, participants will meet on Friday evening, Saturday morning & Sunday afternoon for in-person  and in-water training.

Lifeguarding recertification course fee of $140includes: All items above included except hip pack & breathing barrier. If participants require these items, please let us know prior to the session. Complete sets are available for $20.

2024 recertification courses meet for in-water segment on one day. An online segment is required prior to the in-water sessions.

NOTE: PARTICIPANTS WHO HAVE A CURRENT BSA REGISTRATION NUMBER RECEIVE 10% DISCOUNT ON LIFEGUARDING COURSES . Old Hickory Council, BSA members receive 20% discount on Lifeguarding Class (10% on review session) plus an opportunity to complete BSA Lifeguard at no additional cost.

Lifeguarding course prerequisite skills:
1. Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic
breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a
combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim
goggles may be used.
2. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their
hands under the armpits.
3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
■ Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the
water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
■ Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve
a 10-pound object.
■ Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the
starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face
at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should
not swim the distance under water.
■ Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
